Sacred tree of the Hittites: juniper

Juniper

The Hittites used juniper in religious ceremonies and also in building tombs. For loss of appetite, the patient was given şeytan teresi (giant fennel, Ferula communis) for seven days; if there was no improvement, other plants such as garlic were tried. Which plant would go into a remedy was sometimes decided by divination.
