From folk medicine

Which wound herb?

St John’s wort

In Anatolia the name “yara otu” (wound herb) does not belong to a single plant: in Kastamonu it is given to St John’s wort, in Ankara to boz otu, in Balıkesir, Bolu and Giresun to greater plantain, and in Bilecik to Prunella species. A local name alone is not enough to identify a plant; that is why the Latin name matters.
