Mountain healers: women and shepherds
In Doğubayazıt and Diyadin, the people who gather herbs and give them to the sick are mostly women; women living in the highland pastures and shepherds also carry this knowledge. One shepherd interviewed says he learned which herb is good for which ailment, and when to gather it, by going up the mountain many times with his elders. The knowledge is passed on not through books but by walking together.
