150 kinds of healing hearth

About 150 kinds of ocak (healing hearth) have been recorded in Turkish folk medicine. At a hernia hearth in Balıkesir, a rose branch is split lengthwise without being cut from the plant, the patient is passed through the gap while prayers are recited, and the branch is bound up again with cotton thread. As the branch grows back together, the hernia is believed to heal too.
