A Saturday prayer for temre
Rituals for temre: in Northwest Anatolia there are countless rituals for “temre”, a skin disease caused by fungi. In one village a prayer is written over the patch with a heather twig sharpened like a pen; in other villages the edge of the patch is traced with a hot needle, rock salt or a barley stalk. In some places this is done only on Saturdays.
