An amulet at the door, poison in the mouth

Syrian rue

In Anatolia, Syrian rue is mostly associated with charms against the evil eye; it is hung on doors and its seeds are burned as incense. In the Ağrı region, however, its seeds are also taken by mouth. Caution: Syrian rue seeds contain strong alkaloids that can cause poisoning; this is a cultural record, not a recommendation.
