The dyer’s burn ointment

In Ula, Muğla, the madder dyer Recep Tütüncü (1865–1950) made his own mixture when burns from the dye cauldrons became frequent: kiriş otu root, the fine roots of valonia oak, chaste tree bark and mastic tree resin, with vegetable oils. The knowledge passed to his son, then to his grandchildren. If a large part of the body is burned, they send the patient to hospital.
